Ho'oku'i Community Voyaging Program
We believe that canoes represent bridges that connect people across oceans, cultures and generations, and that by perpetuating this practice of tradition, skill, and knowledge, we can create a stronger society that connects people to each other and the Earth. Our original Voyaging Canoe Malama Ho'o'ku'i, speaks to caring for the "weaving" of stories. Imagery envisioned amongst our Skippers includes the confluence of many tributaries into one River, or a Sea and waterways connecting to Ocean, the mixing of different currents. We also envision weaving together of different threads of identity into one cord, a weaving of collective stories that spans across Oceans, cultures, and generations.
When we come together as a Family of the Canoe, we are weaving our collective Spirits into one strong cordage used to keep our canoe paddling forward with One Mind.
