About the Event
Aloha Ocean People,
We are trying to build and connect existing people and organizations in the Pacific Northwest to support and perpetuate outrigger canoe sailing and canoe paddling in the region. This April 19th, 2020 marks a first of annual meetups for people interested in building, sailing, rigging, or any knowledge or even a curiosity for outrigger canoe sailing and its surrounding cultures.
We believe that canoes represent bridges that connect people across oceans, cultures and generations, and that by perpetuating this practice of tradition, skill, and knowledge, we can create a stronger society that connects people to each other and the Earth.
We will welcome the addition of Hoku'ula a stretched Ulua style (Gary Dierking designed) outrigger sailing canoe to Kaigani Canoe Voyaging Society (Kaigani.org), a non-profit organization based in Friday Harbor Washington. As well as a launch party for Malibu Outrigger (https://www.facebook.com/MalibuOutrigger/) a local startup company that builds recreational outrigger sailing canoes.
We are sending out call to everyone who might be interested in being apart of this and future events and who would want to be a part of the conversation of growing outrigger sailing in the Pacific Northwest as a community, as a sport and as a lifestyle.
